Storm Sector and Timing

The Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June 1st to November 30th. New Jersey’s tropical storm activity is typically between August and late October. NJ’s Office of Emergency Management provides guides and resources to prepare for natural disasters, including hurricanes.

Water Catchment

The US Geological Survey provides data on watersheds, also known as water catchment areas. Montclair lies in the Mid Atlantic Region watershed. A plethora of data on water quality, flow, and many other attributes can be found on its website.

Water Quality

The US Environmental Protection Agency provides maps and data on water quality for swimming, eating fish, aquatic life, drinking water, monitoring, issues, restoration projects, and what you can do to help protect the watersheds.

Sources of Water

Montclair obtains its  water from North Jersey District Water Supply Commission (NJDWSC). The Township of Montclair and the Borough of Glen Ridge are partners in the NJDWSC, which owns and operates the 29.6 billion-gallon Wanaque Reservoir and Treatment Plant and the 7-billion-gallon Monksville Reservoir. They produce an annual water quality report.
