Fences and Boundaries

A 7-foot fence runs along the back boundary and along the east side from the back boundary down as far as the back of the house. The boundary continues to the front of the property defined by the curb to the neighbors driveway. The west side is bounded by the edge of our driveway in the front and shrubs in the back yard.

Montclair specifies that fences shall not exceed 4 1/2 feet in height in the front and seven feet on the remainder of the lot. This is significant because any food we grow needs to be physically protected from ground hogs and deer. Ideally a deer fence should be at least 8 feet high. Our deer fence in the front yard is about 5′ tall and so far has kept the deer out.
